Graffiti artists are the people who use their art to express themselves. They are a subculture that has become highly popular and respected worldwide.

There are many types of graffiti artists and each one has their own style. So, in order to learn more about the genre, it is important to understand its basic elements.

Stencil

A stencil is a piece of plastic, metal, wood or paper with letters or a design cut out of it. When painted or inked, it creates a pattern on a surface that is placed beneath the stencil.

A popular medium in the world of street art, stencils have been practiced since the 1960s by American and European artists such as John Fekner. This technique also inspired the Parisian graffiti artist Blek le Rat, who has been dubbed “the father of graphite with stencil.”

A stencil is a good way to add a personal touch to your wall, furniture, or canvas. It’s a fun, low-cost craft project and can be done by yourself or with family and friends.

Throw-up

Known for being painted quickly, similar to a hollow, this style includes round, bubble letters that are filled with color. This is the fastest way to paint a writer’s tag, and can be done on any wall.

A throw-up is a name or a roll call of names that are painted quickly with one layer of spray paint and an outline. They are typically only one or two colors and are a lot less time and paint-consuming than a piece.

Writers are considered “up” if they have produced a large number of graffiti spots and are still actively running them. They are also considered “up” when they have a wide repertoire of styles and techniques.

Wildstyle

Wildstyle graffiti is a type of graffiti art that features complicated and interlocking letters, arrows, spikes, and other embellishments. It can be seen on trains, walls, and other public surfaces in cities around the world.

Graffiti artists are motivated by a wide range of reasons, including resistance and rebellion, fame (literally making a name for themselves), and the desire to create beauty. Their work is often seen as a visual statement that imposes their identity on the surrounding environment and challenges viewers’ ideas of what art is and who should represent themselves publicly.

During the production of wildstyle graffiti, an artist employs a practice that is similar to historically used perspective drawing tools (see Figure 4). The artist holds the sketch at arm’s length, and mentally projects it onto the surface behind it.

Blockbuster

A blockbuster is a large graffiti piece that is painted in a short time. It is usually made up of block lettering and can be produced with rollers.

This style is usually based on text, but it can also include abstract designs and characters. It is similar to murals, which are big pieces of street art.

The word blockbuster was originally used to describe a movie that was a box office success. It has since been adapted to a number of other uses, including the name of a home movie rental company.

The company remained an iconic brand for decades, until it filed for bankruptcy in 2010. Its business model was to increase sales through aggressive marketing and joint promotions with fast food outlets. However, this strategy was costly and the company’s debt burden was too high. Eventually, it had to shut down most of its stores and lay off workers. This left a lot of people nostalgic about the old-school video store.
